Made in New York: Resin Sculptures by Eric Cahan Resonate With The Light And Ambiance Around Them
December 4, 2014
I am a huge fan of art that uses light and color to create a kind of transcendence. Art like the paintings made by the Washington Color School in the 1950s and 60s create an aura that fills a room with energy.
James Turrell's sky rooms and art made with light also come to mind. The first time I saw a Turrell work in person I was blown away by how much capturing and re-framing of light can really take you somewhere otherworldly.
In a similar vein, Eric Cahan's work plays with light and the environment and the resulting sculptures have a stark yet shimmering religiosity to them.
